March nearing an end…

Welcome to the last week of March!  Is it me or did that month fly by?  How would you characterize this month weather-wise?

Would you say it has been chilly?

Actually, we are averaging about 3 degrees above average in Boston and 4 degrees in Worcester!

Would you say it has been unusually wet/stormy?

Actually, the precipitation to date is just about exactly average with about 3.5″ through today…

Would you say it has been snowier than normal?

Actually, in Worcester and areas well northwest you would be right!  Worcester is about 7″ above the March average to date.  Closer to the Coast and in Boston, there has been very little measurable snow, just 0.9″ in Boston, more than 7″ below the average.

Looking ahead to our last 5 days of March (this week), we will have more of the same…an active pattern with some more rain.  Also, there will be a chance to see a little more snow in the elevated areas.

Storm #1…

Monday night: Rain arrives around 7pm and continues through the overnight.  Nothing all that heavy, and a little wet snow may mix in over the higher elevations of Worcester county and the Berkshires.

Tuesday will be mainly cloudy, chilly and with a few light sprinkles here and there.

Storm #2…

Wednesday night: A cold front slides through with some snow squalls.  Between Midnight and 7am (Thu) there will be some scattered squalls which could coat the ground in some areas.

Storm #3…

The biggest storm of the week arrives later Friday and will likely bring some soaking rainfall into Saturday.  Still a bit early but, Saturday could be a washout type of day…

One last thing…you may have heard about a planetary alignment this week…it is true, there are 5 planets aligned with the Moon in the western sky after sunset.  However…Jupiter and Mercury will be very hard to see as they will be very close to the horizon in twilight.  Uranus will be close to Venus (which is very easy to see), but it is barely visible to the naked eye.

Lastly, there will be clouds tonight, no viewing, and lots of clouds tomorrow as well…So, I would temper your expectations.
