Description: Potions with the Sciencetellers: Saturday, October 25 at 11 a.m. Discover the secrets of a hidden laboratory, perform narrow escapes, witness surprising discoveries, and reveal an unbelievable ending. Climb aboard the Roudenbus and as we travel off Westford’s main roads, you will learn about conservation and recreation spots in Westford, as well as the history of the town’s transformation from farm town to mill town to the Westford of today. We will cover as much of the 30 square miles and 285 years of history as we can in an hour and a half. Ellen Harde is a 47 year resident and co-author of the League of Women Votors slide-tape history and book, “Westford – A Sense of Community”.

At Fundraiser To Benefit Cuban Church

Luis Tiant, Jr., a member of the Red Sox Hall of Fame, will make a special appearance at a fundraiser at St. Catherine’s Parish Hall, 107 North Main St., Westford, on Saturday,
November 8, at 7:00 p.m. Also that evening, one of the Red Sox World Series trophies will be on hand for viewing and picture taking. Photographers will be available for pictures of both the trophy and Tiant.

The winning pitcher of two games during the 1975 World Series, Tiant will be present during the first part of the evening. The trophy will be on hand until 9:00, but the fun will continue until 10:00 p.m. with raffles, silent auctions on items donated by local merchants, and refreshments.

The suggested donation for admission is $5.00 per individual, $10.00 per family. All proceeds benefit Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in Aguacate, Cuba.

This year, we are opening a half hour earlier, so there is even more time to shop!

NEW SCANNER POLICY: The Friends of the Library have decided to no longer allow the use of scanners at the Friends Preview Sale on Friday night to ensure a more welcoming, enjoyable and family-friendly experience for everyone who comes to the sale. However, scanners will be welcome on Saturday and Sunday.

The sale will be open on Saturday, October 18 from 10 a.m. 5 p.m., and Sunday, October 19 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. On Sunday, all materials are half price.

The sale will include thousands of gently used hardcover and paperback books, plus CDs, audiobooks, DVDs and videos. Prices are 50 cents and up for paperbacks and $1 and up for hardcover books.

The Friends of the Library donates 100% of the proceeds from all our book sales directly benefit our library — unlike for-profit organizations which collect books and do not donate all of their proceeds to charitable organizations. Our book sales fund a wide variety of library programs and performers, provide new equipment and furnishings, and supplement the multimedia collections.

The Friends accept hardcover and paperback books in all genres as well as CDs, DVDs, videos and audiobooks.
