The WBZ Weather Team has highlighted Thursday as a NEXT Weather Alert Day.

It’s been a while since we had a soaker. Boston has had a meager 0.12″ of rainfall in the past two and half weeks and the drought status has continued to rise.

It now appears that Thursday will bring some much needed, beneficial rainfall.
The first wave of heavy rain is set to arrive just after dawn.
The morning commute will be slow and wet throughout southern New England. Many models place the heaviest rain with embedded thunderstorms in areas south of the Mass Pike Thursday morning.

Waves of rain will continue throughout the day, essentially making for a washout. The PM commute will likely still be wet in many places.

The Storms Prediction Center has placed southern New England in a “marginal” risk of severe storms on Thursday. This is the lowest risk level (1 of 5).
We do not anticipate any widespread severe weather, but there may be a few isolated, severe thunderstorms.
Any storms that do form may contain very heavy downpours, frequent lightning and the potential for some damaging winds.

Rainfall amounts will vary quite a bit depending upon where the strongest cells form and pass.
Some areas will receive as much as 1-2″ of rain which could lead to some brief, localized street flooding.

The rain clears out Thursday night and leaves us with a mainly dry and warm weekend!
High temperatures Friday through Sunday are forecast to be well into the 70s with just some periods of high clouds arriving later Saturday into Sunday.
Looks like terrific weather for the Red Sox final home series, the Patriots game and any other outdoor plans you may have.
