Fall is coming!

Welcome to a gloomy Tuesday…
We are stuck in the clouds for most of today with some pockets of drizzle this morning and then some rain showers this afternoon and evening.  Gotta admit, we haven’t had too many days like this in quite some time!

The rain this afternoon won’t be all that heavy, certainly nothing “alert worthy” but the ride home will be rather wet for most folks.
Wednesday will be our pick of the week…after we burn off some morning clouds, we expect a good deal of sunshine to emerge and comfortable temperatures in the 70s.

Thursday is going to be one of those fun/changeable weather days.  A cold front will push through southern New England during the day, bringing a line of showers and a few rumbles of thunder.  Behind the front, a true-autumn airmass…temperatures will drop from the 70s during the morning and early afternoon quickly through the 60s and 50s in the evening.

This is certainly the “NEXT BIG THING” to watch locally…

How fitting that Autumn officially arrives at 9:03pm Thursday night, just as the colder air is pouring in!

Friday is our chilliest day since last spring…highs in the 50s and low 60s with a blustery wind.  And, once that wind dies down Friday night, temperatures will drop into the 30s in many suburbs by Saturday morning…our first shot at some scattered frost.  You can see on the image below, that the first frost in the northwestern burbs typically comes in late September, so we aren’t too far ahead of schedule!

Temperatures will warm a bit this weekend…in fact, the weekend looks glorious!  Highs in the upper 60s and low 70s with sunny, dry air!  An amazing weekend to get out and do all those fall things!
Lastly…a check on Hurricane Fiona…now a major category 3 hurricane battering the Turks and Caicos as we speak.  It is forecast to continue strengthening in the next day or two and track just west of Bermuda early Friday morning.  Very little impact here other than some ocean swells and rip currents.
