November 19, 2017 – Bonnie Anderson

Westford native performs Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue

3:15 PM: Pre-Concert Talk  / 4:00 PM: Concert

Co-Artistic Director of the Piano Series and Westford Academy alumna, Bonnie Anderson performs a lovely program of music from the United States and France. Dr. Anderson will talk about her solo piano version of Rhapsody in Blue and give an overview with musical excerpts of the composers that she will be featuring – Rameau, Faure, Debussy, Ravel; Gershwin and Copland.

Collaborating with artists from the Boston Symphony Orchestra, Orpheus Chamber Orchestra, Los Angeles Philharmonic and San Francisco Symphony, Ms. Anderson has performed in Alice Tully Hall, Jordan Hall, Shalin Liu Performance Center, Austrian Embassy, and numerous universities around the country. She performed Hindemith’s Trio for Piano, Saxophone and Viola with Branford Marsalis and Christof Huebner at the Nantucket Musical Arts Society Concert Series. After performing chamber music by Brahms in Michigan, The Grand Rapids Press wrote, “Anderson’s gifts point to the poetic…the Brahms Sonata swept the listener away in ecstasy.”

At age 14, Ms. Anderson performed Grieg’s Piano Concerto with the Boston Pops. Ms. Anderson has appeared as piano soloist with the Boston Symphony, Peoria Symphony, Springfield Symphony, Bach Society Orchestra of Harvard University, Northern Illinois Philharmonic and the Bach Festival Orchestra in New Hampshire. As orchestral pianist, Ms. Anderson is a long-term member of the Orchestra of Indian Hill and has played piano and celeste with the Pro Arte Chamber Orchestra and former New Hampshire Symphony.

Ms. Anderson’s honors include the Young Pianist Award at Tanglewood, as well as top prizes at the Young Keyboard Artists Association International Competition and San Antonio International Keyboard Competition. In addition to attending the Juilliard School, Michigan State University, and the French Piano Institute in Paris, she received a Doctor of Musical Arts from Boston University. An enthusiastic educator, Ms. Anderson is a member of the piano faculty at Phillips Andover Academy and teaches privately on the North Shore.  She enjoys giving master classes and lectures. Ms. Anderson’s solo recording includes music by Bach, Mozart, Chopin, Rachmaninoff, Debussy, Ravel and Rorem. She is pleased to announce the release of her first collaborative CD on Summit Records with Joseph Foley (trumpet, cornet, flugelhorn).
