Book Bingo

Book Bingo is held separately on two nights for Pre-First/First Grade and Second Grade students.

This is a fun, social night for the children. Players create their own bingo card using the provided list of sight words. The winner of each BINGO chooses their prize from a selection of books.  ALL student players will receive a book to take home at the end of the evening. Volunteer opportunities include setting up, cleaning up, acting as bingo checker and assisting the bingo caller (Mrs. DuBois).

Field Day

This is a fabulous school event directed by Mr. Weston, the Wellness teacher, a host of grade level teachers and parents. This joyous celebration of the school year is a favorite memory for many students.

Halloween Carnival

This is a favorite outdoor, after school family event. It offers students, family and friends an opportunity to wear costumes, play carnival games, get a picture taken with classmates (available for purchase in an adorable, magnet frame) and just plain socialize. Volunteering opportunities include: setting up, cleaning up and staffing the stations.  Donations are welcome.

Kindergarten Sing-A-Long

Bernadette Baird, local renowned early childhood music specialist and department chair at the Indian Hill School of Music, will conduct and entertain our Nab Kindergarteners in a traditional sing-a-long by a (pretend) campfire. Children are welcome to wear pajamas, and bring blankets or sleeping bags, pillows and stuffed animals.

Math and Science Nights

Math and Science Nights are held separately for each grade. They are filled with fun, age appropriate activities and experiments. Enjoy a night of fun and exploration by participating in hands-on Math and Science activities. Children have the opportunity to rotate through tables set up with various math and science experiments. Volunteer opportunities include: helping with set-up 20 minutes before, or cleaning-up 15 minutes after the event. Parental supervision is needed at the tables.

Nabnasset & Abbot Schools Family Read Aloud

Nabnasset & Abbot Family Read Aloud is a new family literacy program bringing our sister school communities together with hopes of banishing the March doldrums.

Research has proven that reading aloud for as little as ten minutes a day stimulates children’s imaginations, lengthens their attention spans and enhances language skills. By sharing reading with a child, you foster a lifelong love of books and literature. All of our families benefit from time together experiencing the magic and power of a good book.

The Family Read Aloud is similar to a book club and works like this: During the month of March, families read the selected book at home. Then one evening at the end of March, staff members from the Nabnasett and Abbot Schools host a culminating sister school, Family Literacy Night at the Abbot School. The Family Literacy Night will consist of book discussion groups as well as a variety activities relating to the story.

Watch for flyers and more information (or subscribe to the PTO website for announcements) coming in March.

The book selected for March 2016 is The Hundred Dresses by Eleanor Estes.

Scholastic Book Fair

The Scholastic Book Fairs provide Nab students the opportunity to be part of a school-wide celebration of books! The Book Fair gives children access to buying new books, creating excitement for reading. Every effort is made to offer a wide range of titles for every level and interest. Favorite series and authors will get kids excited about reading.

The Book Fair happens twice a year, during the weeks of fall and spring teacher conferences. Parents are welcome to join their children browsing the Book Fair during the child’s normally scheduled library time. The Book Fair is also open to families during conferences.

Westford Elementary PTO (WEPTO) sponsors the fall Book Fair at Nab and the Nabnasset Library Staff sponsors the spring Book Fair.
