Join us for Westford’s First Indigenous Peoples’ Day observance on Monday, October 14 at 10am on Westford Town Common. This gathering will focus on community learning and reflection as we honor the land that is now Westford, Massachusetts, historically home to the Pawtucket (or Wamesit) and Nashoba tribes.
We are proud to feature keynote speaker Angela Marcellino, a member of the federally recognized Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe and author of “The True Natives of Cape Cod Massachusetts and Their Food Ways.” Angela’s diverse heritage encompasses Portuguese, English, Cape Verdean, Central European, and Indigenous New England roots. Through her engaging presentation, she will share her multicultural background by exploring traditional recipes that blend Native, Portuguese, and English culinary practices. These recipes serve as a metaphor for the blending of cultures and reflect her own cultural identity.
